According to the Settlement Law No. 5543, the citizenship file of the persons accepted as immigrants after completing their procedures is prepared by the provincial directorate of migration administration and sent to the Ministry. The file of the foreigner sent to the Ministry to acquire Turkish citizenship is examined and a proposal is made to the Council of Ministers for the person to acquire Turkish citizenship. Turkish citizenship can be acquired by the decision of the Council of Ministers.

According to Article 12 of the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901:

The following foreigners can acquire Turkish citizenship upon the proposal of the Ministry and the decision of the Council of Ministers, provided that there is no situation that would constitute an obstacle in terms of national security and public order. ( (d) Persons accepted as immigrants.)

If you meet the conditions required by the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901, it is possible to have your citizenship status re-evaluated if you apply to the governor’s office of your place of residence.

• To be of legal age and have the ability to distinguish.
• To have acquired the citizenship of a foreign state or to have convincing indications that one will acquire it.
• To not be among those wanted for any crime or military service.
• To not have any financial or criminal restrictions.

If minor children, whose citizenship status is being investigated based on their parents, reach adulthood before their citizenship procedures are finalized, the application authorities must be informed and a citizenship file must be prepared in their name.
